To Hang Or Not To Hang? A Quick Guide To Layering Your Art.

If you want a more casual look in your home, leaning artwork on a mantle, shelf, or console is the way to go. It lends some texture, visual depth, and (most importantly for me) is allows for easy rearrangement of art that is feeling a little stale. Since there are no nail holes to worry about, you can swap pieces in and out as your tastes change.

Here are some quick tips for leaning and layering your artwork.

  • Vary the frame widths, height and matted borders.
  • Don't be afraid to mix frame colors, but keep it within a similar palette (whites, blacks and wood tones). It'll help make the layers 'pop'.
  • Play with medium. You can mix photos, fabric, paintings, and collages.
